Newsletter 11/04/10: Storm The Charts Voting Open Now!

12:01 am by joe. Filed under: Newsletters

Hello

As we’ve explained there has been a brief pause in the onstage action from National Snack recently while we got the Minds Ear Project trial together. However this does NOT mean that everything else is pausing for National Snack. Far from it….

We are very excited to announce that voting has opened for the Storm The Charts Campaign and if we ever needed your Snacky love it’s right now!

VOTING OPEN FOR NATIONAL SNACK IN THE STORM THE CHARTS CAMPAIGN

CLICK HERE TO VOTE FOR NATIONAL SNACK IN THE STORM THE CHARTS CAMPAIGN! or go to the following page http://tinyurl.com/snackvote **Please note that this link may only work until Tuesday night as we will then be placed in a different group of 5 for round 2 if we make it through round 1.

The Storm The Charts Campaign is building on the success of the Rage Against The Machine for Christmas number one campaign and aims to get as many unsigned and unknown bands into the charts as possible in a specified week in June. Over the next 10 weeks 40 songs will be chosen from the list of 573 bands that are registered. 20 songs will be chosen by a panel of judges and 20 will be chosen by public vote. We are happy to be one of the bands up for consideration and we need your votes!

THE SELECTION PROCESS

To explain how the system will work here’s Wes who’s running the show:

“We need to choose 40 acts from our list of over 400 (almost certainly over 500 by the time I’ve dealt with all the emails that came in in the final 2 days).

This is how it’s going to happen:

2 acts per week will be decided by public vote, and 2 by our panel (which is the former Glastonbury Unsigned competition panel, who were responsible for placing hundreds of unsigned artists, of all kinds, on stages all over Glastonbury Festival including the main stages between 2004 and 2007).

The public vote is going to be done over a total of 9 or 10 weeks but it will be fast-paced throughout.

Each week will comprise 4 knock-out rounds lasting just a day or two.

In the first round each week, the whole list of artists will be divided into random groups of 5, each with its own poll featuring links to the pages the artists have provided where their tracks can be heard streaming.

The idea is, you listen to the five songs, choose your favourite from those 5, and vote for them in that poll. Everyone will be able to vote in as many or as few different polls as they want to (or have time to). One winner from each poll will go through to the second round, which will feature a new set of groups of five comprising just the winners of the first round. So each week we’ll have -

Round One – (say) 100 polls of five artists each, with 100 winners

Round Two – 20 polls with 20 winners

Round Three – 4 polls with 4 winners

Round Four – 1 poll of just the 4 artists who’ve come through from Round Three, of whom 2 will make our big list of 40 winners – and then 2 will also be announced by the panel.

Then in the next week we start the whole process again from the beginning.”

This is a great campaign that will help a huge number of unsigned bands get some recognition and as lovers of independent music we strongly urge you  to vote in at least one poll other than the one we are in. We would love to get through to the final 40 but what is really important is that someone does and that relies on you, on us and on anyone else that we can get involved. So get listening, get voting and SPREAD THE WORD!

You can let people know about the campaign by posting this link in emails, tweets, blogs etc: http://bit.ly/stormvote

Thanks for reading and happy listening!

Joe x

10:31 am by admin. Filed under: Newsletters

Hello

The Enormous Project #2 is born!

Mungrul gets loud and dirty. All new line-up! Almost all new set! We’ve
got Dean on guitar and Doctorcyclops on bass and the walls have been shaking at Snack HQ. Here’s a taster video we made:

If the video doesn’t show up then you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsadPbXR5TI
It all kicks off in Oxford this Fri and Coventry on Saturday. See below for more setails. We play Colchester on the 6th March and a London show is to be confirmed but we’re aiming at the 12 Bar. We’ll let you know.
Thanks to everyone who came out to see The Enormous Project #1 with the
inimitable Mr Charlie Evans on the bass. He is truly a Snacky superstar
but Charlie has now ridden off into the sunset to do his own thang which
Well he’s almost done – there’s still the Enormous Project #1 EP, (coming soon as a free download and a collectors edition CD+extras), and the St Albans battle of the bands at The Horn to attend to.
Please note:
The gig in Cambridge on 20th March will be Enormous Project #3 and we
have no IDEA what that will be yet… Skin of our teeth? Never.

NS Newsletter: Mungrul Music Video

10:52 am by admin. Filed under: Newsletters

Hello
Normally we wouldn’t email twice in a week but,
after much hard work and love, the video we shot before Christmas to
promote Wednesdays Mungrul Music Extravaganza is ready for viewing and
it really is rather spiffing!
You can view it here on the
Hot Head Show blog: http://hotheadshower.blogspot.com/
The video is called “It’s Mungrul Music”. As soon as we get our hands
on the file we will post it up on our youtube channel too.
Thank
you to everyone who came down and helped out. The original plan for the
vid had to be modified a bit so we apologise if your beautiful face,
swinging hips or stomping feet didn’t survive the editing room but we
hope the chocolate vodka was a small consolation!
See you
at the gig.
Joe x

NS Newsletter: Our First Interview!

11:05 am by admin. Filed under: Newsletters

..

Hello
And welcome to 2010 where the weather is FREEZING
but the people are friendly and the music is good. We trust and hope
you all had a suitably homely/debauched holiday. Here’s all the latest
from us at National Snack.
LIVE SHOWS
The
first show of 2010 sees National Snack and The Enormous Project #1
(aka Charlie Evans) heading to The Cellar in Oxford on Thurs 14th. The
Cellar is an amazing venue and people of Oxford – you never disappoint
so we’ll see you there!
Weds 27th sees THREE mungrul music
bands on a single stage at Tommy Flynns in Camden. Hot Head Show, The
Dromomaniac and National Snack all on the same bill for a Mungrul Music
Extravaganza.
**Check below for full gig details.**
OUR INTERVIEW CHERRY HAS BEEN TAKEN!
Admittedly
it’s only me answering questions this time but hey, Lavikinga was busy
forging new guitar strings in the back room. It’s part of a series of
interviews put together by an old friend of mine, Paul Grimsley. Read it
here: http://intoviews.wordpress.com/2009/12/27/national-snack/
RECORDING NEWS
Over
the Christmas holiday we have hidden away the television set, sold all
the jigsaw puzzles and smashed the beloved karaoke machine to convert
Snack HQ into a recording studio extrordinaire! It is with great thanks
to Andy, Chaz and Captain South America who have lent us a lovely
selection of microphones that we can announce the beginning of a
particularly exciting bunch of recordings that will soon become the
first ever full length National Snack album. You can follow our
progress, (sort of), in our video blogs at our youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/nationalsnackmusic
Also
coming soon a tasty little EP of The Enormous Project #1….
Stay
well and happy and maybe we’ll see you in a snowball fight somewhere.
Joe
